Dear friends and colleagues,
With Covid 19 still fresh in our memories it is exciting to once again be organising this year’s
Pantheo, face-to-face meeting.
It is hard to believe that another year has gone by so quickly. We all face new challenges, new conflicts affecting our daily lives but we still seem to go on relentlessly with the task at hand, which is none other than to provide the best possible care for our patients and endeavour to keep up with new developments.
It is with this in mind that we continue to run this meeting and invite you all to join us for a weekend of updates and debates on a wide-range of subjects in our specialty. One of the most expressed, popular aspects, of our meeting is the variability of the subject matter covered.
This meeting that has for many years been the highlight of our organisation’s calendar and it is a source of pride for us when previous participants view it in the same light.
We welcome you therefore to this year’s meeting and look forward to another fruitful interaction.
We will once again share our knowledge, exchange our ideas, and enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed social program.
We thank you for attending and our special thanks to all our speakers without whom this meeting would not be possible.

The Alistair Fielder Prize in Ophthalmology

Medical students have the opportunity to present at the Alistair Fielder Prize in Ophthalmology. This prize is now a well established competition named after Professor Alistair Fielder, who is the chair of the judging committee every year. The award will be given to the best presented case presentation done by the participants.

There will be two prizes, one for medical students and one for ophthalmic trainees or fellows at any stage of their training.  There will also be a prize for the best poster presentation.

The students work and present strictly in pairs. Each pair can do a presentation and a poster based on the same given case.

All the presentations must be in a form of a case presentation aiming to improve clinical practice or provide a message to be learnt from the case scenario. The judging committee will be consisted of Professor Alistair Fielder and three more consultants who will assess the contestants according their presentation skills, scientific importance, clinical content, originality and the message to be learnt. The judging panel will also ask questions to the presenters but no questions will be taken from the floor.

The Pantheo team is happy to provide cases and guidance for the medical students for presentations or posters like every year. Students can work in groups of two or three for the poster.

We will be accepting a maximum number of six pairs of students for the presentations and additionally four pairs of teams for the posters.

Priority will be given to the students that have never presented at Pantheo Conference in the past.

Declaration of interest should be submitted to Dr Katia Papastavrou by 10 February 2023 by email to or

Cyprus History

Cyprus is a small island with a long history and a rich culture that spans 11.000 years, making it one of the oldest civilisations in the Mediterranean – as evidenced by the many fascinating cultural sights, museums, monuments and galleries. Situated at the crossroads of three continents – Europe, Asia and Africa – the island’s unique geographic position has played an important part in its turbulent past since antiquity. Its Prehistoric Age inhabitants were joined 3,500 years ago by the Mycenaean Greeks, who introduced and established their civilisation, thus permanently instilling the island’s Greek roots.
